Organising International Solidarity

SOLIDAR stands for peace: Call for adhesions to the Peace March Perugia-Assisi and the International Conference on 8-9 October

This year, in the framework of the annual peace march from Perugia to Assisi on 9 October 2016, SOLIDAR will support its member organisation CGIL in the organisation of an international conference on “Europe and the Mediterranean. Places of peace and rights: for all or for the few?”, which will take place in Perugia on 8 October 2016.

In the context of the international peace march, this conference aims to open the floor to different voices from Europe, the Mediterranean and Africa, from civil society organisations, institutions and trade unions, in order to address three key issues that are at stake when it comes to Euro-Mediterranean relations, democracy, peace-building and conflict-resolution: Non-violent struggles for democracy in Arab countries; Causes, Protection & hosting of Migrants & Refugees; Peace & Rights.

The conference is organised in the framework of the overall call for adhesion to the values of the peace march which rejects the current narratives of populism, closure and violence, and instead promotes a culture of peace based on non-violence, education, acceptance and inclusion, solidarity and cooperation, dialogue and reconciliation, respect for diversity and coexistence, solidarity economy and decent work.
